Salone del Mobile Milano

With more than 2300 exhibitors and 370 000 visitors from more than 100 countries besieging its stalls every year, the Salone del Mobile Milano in Milan is a truly gigantic event. If you are in furniture or interior design, it is one of the must-visit appointments on your calendar, an event synonymous with style and frequented by all of the biggest names in the industry.

Also sometimes referred to as Milan Design Week - or simply the "Salone" or "Milano Salone" - the trade show includes several linked events which alternate between odd and even-numbered years:

FTK is a kitchen technology exhibition, while EuroCucina and the International Bathroom Exhibition are regular features. A more recent addition is the SaloneSatellite, a recruitment fair for talented young designers and furniture industry professionals.

But that's not all. Because of its size and importance, the Salone has become something of an institution. International artists and designers time their own smaller events to take place in the city at the same time, giving the many visitors who flock to the Milano Salone many cultural as well as professional sights to suit their tastes.

These artists and designers do it for the exposure too - more than 5000 national and international journalists and members of the press will be in Milan for the weekend, not to mention the more than 27 000 members of the public who come to see what the fuss is all about.
