The Paris Air Show was first held all the way back in 1908, where part of the Paris Motor Show was dedicated to aircraft for the first time. The following year, more than 100 000 people - impressive today and simply incredible for the time - made the trip to see the first true Paris Air Show at the Grand Palais.
Only major historical events - namely the First and Second World Wars - have stopped the Air Show from being held every other year since.
The modern Paris Air Show, formally known as the Salon international de l'aéronautique et de l'espace de Paris-Le Bourget in French, or more colloquially, the Salon du Bourget, is held at Le Bourget. It has been the major trade show and exhibition in the world of aviation and aeronautics since the 1970s.
Today, more than 100 years after it first opened its doors, more than 142 000 industry professionals and 180 000 or more members of the public regularly attend the jaw-dropping exhibition of flying machines. Both military and non-military aircraft are showcased.
Attendees come from all over the world and include representatives of numerous military air forces as well as major aircraft manufacturers. Like other years, the Paris Air Show 2023 will start with "professional days" where these officials and companies conclude their important business and then open to the public over the extended weekend.
Whether you are visiting as a professional representative or public attendee, finding a hotel for the Paris Air Show can be more difficult than it sounds. Paris becomes massively overbooked for the weekend, in particular, making accommodation scarce. Luckily, there is a straightforward solution:
