Founded in 1991, the Monaco Yacht Show takes place in Monte Carlo, Monaco in the only deepwater port in Monaco, Port Hercules. Used since antiquity, the modern Port Hercules covers around 40 acres and has anchorage space for more than 700 vessels, ranging from standard berths up to 40-metre spaces for superyachts and cruise ships.
The Monaco Yacht Show, often known by its acronym the MYS, was first founded by the French entrepreneur Maurice Cohen. The rights were bought by the management company IIR and then passed to the current organisers Informa (the British events and publishing company) when IIR was acquired by them in 2005.
It was IIR which was responsible for turning the MYS into an event which focusses on superyachts, boats which can be anything from 20 metres to 90 metres in length. There are often nearly 600 exhibitors, including superyacht builders, designers, luxury brands and brokerage and finance companies, attending the exhibition.
In recent years, there has been an extra linked event - the Car Deck - showcasing luxury vehicles from Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini, McLaren and Mercedes-Benz among others. This is in addition to the more than 150 private events which take place in Monte Carlo and Port Hercules at the same time, such as press conferences, receptions an product launches.
The still-exclusive event regularly attracts thousands of the world's elite, with the Monaco Yacht Show 2020, taking place on 23.09.2020 – 26.09.2020, set to be no exception.
