The International Broadcasting Convention is more commonly known by its acronym, the IBC. It takes place in Amsterdam in the RAI Exhibition and Convention Center every year. More than 57 000 industry professionals from more than 170 different countries visited the IBC on its 50th edition back in 2017, taking advantage of the chance to view the exhibits of the more than 1700 technology and service providers who attend the convention.
In addition to the stunning range of innovation and technology on display, the IBC has a huge range of talks, keynote speakers and workshops from key figures in the broadcast, content creation and provision and equipment manufacturing industries, as well as speeches by experts drawn from a variety of professional and technical associations related to the field.
In one year alone, these have included an in-depth summit on Cloud and Cloud Transformation, the head of the New York Times talking about his publication's digital success, an e-sports myth-debunking and showcase event, a speech from YouTube's Head of Content and one from Sony's Vice President on the changing way content is created and consumed.
Make no mistake - IBC 2020 will be an equally impressive event. The IBC is an independent body with a full-time professional staff who spend every year preparing for the next IBC.
The scale of the trade show and exhibition puts a great deal of strain on the accommodation Amsterdam has available. If you're struggling to find a suitable hotel for the IBC, think Room Bites:
